Full description
Join a journey of discovery that begins as you follow in the footsteps of Alexander von Humboldt and Charles Darwin and leads you to modern-day exploration of life on Earth. Every day, around 200 scientists working at the Natural History Museum seek answers to the great problems and challenges of the future, relying on its scientific collections of more than 30 million objects. Their ideas shape various permanent and special exhibitions
and many special events.
Some of the most famous exhibits can be found in the Hall of Dinosaurs, which shows life as it might have been during the Upper Jurassic period, 150 million years ago. Giraffatitan brancai, the tallest mounted dinosaur skeleton in the world, impressively greets all visitors in the center of the exhibition hall. The precious Archaeopteryx lithographica, the Mona Lisa of natural history, is elegantly displayed in
secure display case at the rear of the room. All fossils, and dinosaurs in particular, continue to reveal new secrets to scientists and researchers from around the world.
The museum offers much more than extinct fossil remains—the East Wing allows visitors to see the actual research collection, which has received many accolades. This collection is home to about a million animals, preserved in 80 tons of alcohol. The Biodiversity Wall mesmerizes visitors, showcasing 3,000 species at a glance. This thought-provoking installation opens up a discussion about biodiversity
and its loss, a topic that remains at the center of the museum's research efforts.
The Natural History Museum is always worth a visit thanks to its changing temporary exhibitions and varied educational program, including excursions, lectures and seminars.
